Counselling and Psychotherapy in South London
Constanze Gilbert

Welcome! If you are struggling with something and thinking about therapy, I'm here to listen.

Counselling in South London

I am an Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist in London with 25 years’ experience in mental health settings and ten years in Private Practice.

How Therapy Can Help You

I offer a safe space where you will be heard with compassion and without judgement, where you will be treated as the unique individual you are and seen through the eyes of years of experience and dedication.

I highly value the relationship with my clients. I see our therapeutic relationship as a shared journey, where we navigate the matters on your mind together. This is a collaborative journey, created and driven by you, and shaped by the fresh approach you’ll be offered. You are the expert on your own life, yet we can all benefit from a skilled perspective on our difficulties. Whether you are facing longer-term issues or a recent struggle, I am committed to  being your guide and support from day one of your therapy.

Therapy In-Person, Online & Outdoors

My primary way of working is face-to-face, and I also see people online, mainly on Zoom. I also offer therapy outdoors walking in the local parks. Outdoor psychotherapy can be a beneficial way of unlocking your narrative as you tell your story ‘on the move’.  I will work flexibly with you, which might entail ‘hybrid’ working depending on what you feel works best for your therapy.

Counselling & Psychotherapy with Individuals & Couples

After an initial period of familiarising yourself with my way of working, we will decide together what works best moving forward. I offer both counselling and psychotherapy, which basically means that the latter tends to be open ended and more in depth, usually when your concerns are more complex or reaching back into your history.

I work with individuals and couples, whereby I refer to ‘couples’ in a wider sense as romantic/sexual partners; family members; friends; or colleagues.

I see persons with diverse backgrounds and nationalities and offer therapy in English and German.

How I can Help and Where I Come From

I have treated a variety of issues and conditions as set out below. My areas of expertise are working with trauma (incl. PTSD and Complex PTSD) as well addiction; and I specialise in couples’ counselling and therapy. Throughout my career I have helped clients with depression, anxiety and acute as well as chronic conditions such as mood disorders, complex grief, and chronic fatigue. My special interests include working with migrants and speakers of other languages, especially German; and life transitions, especially older peoples’ issues.

Setting out as a nurse originally, I went into psychiatric counselling and from there progressed to alcohol and drug rehabilitation and family work. During my eight years of training, I also worked in NHS GP surgeries where I had the privilege to see people from all walks of life.

I have studied integrative counselling and psychotherapy, therapeutic body work and trauma-informed counselling. I have been accredited with the UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy) as an integrative psychotherapist and counsellor since 2015 (reg. no. 2011165122)
